It specifically binds to ICOS, but not to other T cell costimulatory molecules such as CD28 and CTLA-4. B7-H2-ICOS interaction appears to be very important in the expansion of activated T cells and late-phase immune responses (1). B7-H2 enhances the proliferation of both CD4 and CD8 T cells, the secretion of Th1- and/or Th2-type cytokines, and the expression of CD154 (CD40 ligand) on T cells (2). It is expressed constitutively on B lymphocytes and at low levels on monocytes (3). Furthermore, B7-H2-ICOS interaction induces IL-10 production, which plays an important role in reducing immune responses (4).
